Resumen: In this contribution, a thermodynamics based regulation problem is proposed to control a counter flow shell-and-tube heat exchanger. To regulate the system, an output error, correlated with the total entropy production inside the heat exchanger, is proposed; this error depends on the output variable, its reference, the control variable and the measured disturbances, therefore a dynamical controller with a PID behavior is derived as a preliminary solution of the proposed regulation problem. Finally, this controller is tested via numerical simulation showing satisfactory stability properties.
